Terms of Use

Last updated 26 July 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Kinnu Works (“we,” “us”) about your use of the Sonrise app. By downloading or using Sonrise, you agree to them. We've kept them in plain language, because you should be able to understand what you're agreeing to.

What Sonrise is

Sonrise is an iPhone app that helps you wake early and spend your first moments with God. It provides a real alarm, faith-based “wake actions” you complete to dismiss it, a daily verse, bundled Scripture and reading plans, a faithfulness streak, and a journal. It is a devotional aid, not a substitute for a doctor, counselor, or spiritual director, and nothing in it is medical, mental-health, or professional advice.

The alarm

Sonrise is designed so the alarm is not easily dismissed until you complete a wake action — that is the entire point of the app, and you choose it knowingly. Please do not rely on Sonrise as your only alarm for situations where failing to wake could be dangerous (for example, if you are on call for safety-critical work). Set a backup if the stakes are high. Sonrise depends on your device's settings, battery, and Apple's AlarmKit system, and we can't guarantee an alarm will fire in every possible condition.

Subscriptions, free trial, and billing

Full use of Sonrise requires a paid subscription, offered after a free trial:

Prices are shown in your local currency in the app at the point of purchase and are the authoritative figures; the amounts above are for reference. Here's how billing works:

All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us; request them through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Scripture and content

The Bible translations included in Sonrise — the Berean Standard Bible, the King James Version, and the World English Bible — are in the public domain. Reading plans are generic sequences of Scripture references generated for Sonrise. The app's design, text, artwork, sounds, and code are owned by us and are licensed to you for personal use only. You may share the verse-of-the-day wallpapers the app creates. You may not copy, resell, or redistribute the app or its original content.

Acceptable use

Please use Sonrise for its intended purpose. Don't attempt to reverse-engineer, tamper with, or disrupt the app, and don't use it in any unlawful way. Sonrise has no social or user-to-user features, so there is no user-generated content to moderate.

Your content

Your journal entries, prayers, and notes are yours. They stay on your device (and your private iCloud, if enabled). We claim no ownership of them and have no access to them.

Disclaimers and liability

Sonrise is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent allowed by law. We don't guarantee the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that an alarm will always fire. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Sonrise. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited by law.

App Store terms

Sonrise is distributed through Apple's App Store, and Apple requires every app's terms to include the following. These sit alongside everything above.

Changes

We may update the app and these terms over time. If we make material changes to these terms, we'll update this page and the date above. Continuing to use Sonrise after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Kinnu Works operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
