Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 July 2026
Sonrise was built on a simple conviction: your quiet time with God is yours. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what happens to your information when you use the Sonrise app. There is very little to explain, and that is by design.
The short version. Sonrise has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no trackers. Your streak, journal, prayers, and settings live on your iPhone and sync only through your own private iCloud. We can't see any of it. The only information that leaves your device is a purchase receipt, used solely to confirm your subscription.
Who we are
Sonrise is developed by Kinnu Works. If you have any question about your privacy, email us at dhirajkavuri29@gmail.com — a real person will answer.
What Sonrise stores, and where
Everything you create in Sonrise is stored locally on your device. This includes:
- Your alarm time, chosen wake action, and sound.
- Your faithfulness streak and the history of mornings you've risen.
- Your journal entries, gratitude notes, and typed or answered prayers.
- Your reading-plan progress and translation preference.
- Your onboarding answers.
If you are signed in to iCloud, this data may sync privately between your own Apple devices through Apple's iCloud, using your personal iCloud account. This sync is handled entirely by Apple; the data is associated with your Apple Account, not with Sonrise, and we have no access to it and no ability to read it. If you are not signed in to iCloud, everything simply stays on the one device and the app works exactly the same.
What we do not collect
We want to be specific, because “we value your privacy” is easy to say and easy to break:
- No accounts. You never create a Sonrise login. We never ask for your name, email, phone number, or birthday.
- No analytics. There is no third-party analytics or crash-tracking SDK in the app. We do not measure how you use it.
- No advertising and no tracking. Sonrise shows no ads, contains no ad networks, and does not track you across other apps or websites. Because of this, the app never triggers Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- No selling of data. We have no data about you to sell, and we would not sell it if we did.
Microphone, camera, and motion
Some wake actions use your iPhone's sensors, and each is handled entirely on your device:
- Microphone. The “read the verse aloud” and “pray it back” actions transcribe your speech using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your voice is never recorded, never saved, and never sent to us or anyone else. It is used in the moment to check that you read the words, and then it's gone.
- Camera. The photo-mission action uses your camera and Apple's on-device text recognition to confirm your open Bible is in front of you. The photo is analyzed on your device and is not stored or transmitted.
- Motion. The walking and stand-up actions read your device's step counter and motion sensors to confirm you're moving. This data never leaves your phone.
You can decline any of these permissions and still use Sonrise — the app offers a typing-based alternative so no permission is ever a dead end.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Sonrise schedules them locally on your device — the night-before reminder, milestone moments, and, if you start a free trial, a reminder the day before it ends. These are generated on your phone. We do not operate a push server and we do not send you messages remotely.
Purchases
When you subscribe, the transaction is handled by Apple through the App Store, and by our subscription-management provider, RevenueCat, which processes the App Store purchase receipt so the app can confirm whether you have an active subscription.
This receipt contains information about the purchase itself — the product you bought, the transaction, and its status. It is not linked to your name or identity, because Sonrise never collects those. RevenueCat acts as our data processor for subscription state only. You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy. Apple's handling of your payment is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Children
Sonrise is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them. Because we don't collect personal information from anyone, there is nothing for us to knowingly collect from a child.
Your rights
Since your data lives on your device, you are in direct control of it. You can delete any journal entry in the app, and deleting the app removes all of its local data from your iPhone. To remove data that synced through iCloud, manage it from your device's iCloud settings. Because we never hold your personal data on our own servers, there is no account for us to delete and no export for us to send — but if you have any question about this, email dhirajkavuri29@gmail.com and we'll help.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Sonrise handles data — for example, if a future feature required something new — we will update this page and change the date at the top before that feature ships. Material changes will be noted clearly.
